Night and the Doctor is a series of five made-for-DVD mini-episodes of Doctor Who which were written by Steven Moffat. They were released as bonus features in the Complete Sixth Series DVD and Blu-ray box sets in November 2011. Four of them are thematically linked and take place in the console room of the TARDIS. They are centering on the question: what is the Doctor doing at night when his companions are asleep? The fifth one a precedes the events of the episode "Closing Time", and does not feature the Doctor or any regular companions.

Amy Pond answers the phone. The Doctor brings a fish bowl in the TARDIS, and the goldfish inside is royalty. Or maybe not.
The Doctor helps Amy to cope with the two timelines she remembers, and gives her the opportunity to buy herself an ice cream.
It is River Song's first night at Stormcage, and the Doctor wants to take her out. But a future version of River Song shows up.
There are three versions of River Song on board the TARDIS, and their timelines should not cross. Plus one of them is on her way to the Singing Towers of Daryllium.
This episode is takes place prior to "Closing Time" by Gareth Roberts and shows the night spent by Craig Owens before the Doctor pays him a visit. "Up All Night" is the only one of the DVD mini-episodes not to feature the Doctor, any regular companions, or the TARDIS. Craig Owens faces his fears of being a father and caring for young Alfie, while Sophie prepares for her trip and the lights flicker ominously.
